Abu Dhabi, May 19, 2010 On behalf of Government of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development signed a contract for Rehabilitation and Refurbishment of Aden Hotel in Yemen with a total contract amount of AED 129 million ($35 million), the contract was signed Between Mr. / Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, the Acting Director General of the Fund and Mr Hani Shehadeh the Area General Manager for Consolidated Contractors Group S.A.L (Offshore) (CCC) in the Republic of Yemen.
Mr. Al Suwaidi has confirmed that this initiative comes as part of implementing the directives of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The President of UAE "may God protect him" and H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and the follow- up of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to support the development process in the Republic of Yemen. The project is undertaken as a part of grant that provided by the Government of Abu Dhabi in 2009 amounting to AED 2.24 billion, to finance several development projects in Republic of Yemen.
Al Suwaidi pointed out, that this project is aimed at supporting the Republic to Yemen in hosting a successful Gulf 20 Tournaments which will be held in Aden. The Hotel will provide about 200 rooms and suits with all the necessary 5 stars hospitality and recreation facilities.
It is worth mentioning that the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development has extended its support to development projects in the Republic of Yemen since 1974. The Fund has financed 12 development projects amounting in value to about AED 394 million, additionally, the Fund has managed on behave of the Government of Abu Dhabi 23 development projects funded through grants amounting to about AED 3 billion. The above noted assistance reflects the Abu Dhabi government's commitment in promoting a sustainable development process covering the various vital sectors in the Republic of Yemen.
