Solar Energy Project

The 512 kW solar PV power plant on Vava’u Island meets over 17 per cent of the island’s electricity needs and 76 per cent of the country’s additional grid demand during peak hours. Completed in 2013, Tonga’s first large scale renewable energy project powers over 850 homes, saves more than 286,000 litres of diesel per year and reduces annual CO2 emissions by 724 tonnes.
