ADFD Hosts Educational Workshop on Sign Language

Abu Dhabi,19 Jul 2018

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the leading national entity for development aid, organised an informative in-house workshop on the basics of communication through sign language. The session was hosted as part of ADFD’s social responsibility mandate to integrate the hearing-impaired community into society and alleviate challenges in their interaction.

Conducted by experts from the Hand Speakers initiative of the Emirates Foundation, the workshop drew the participation of ADFD employees and highlighted the use of fingers to illustrate numbers and letters, as well as facial expressions to convey feelings through practical applications and exercises.

Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Khalifa Al Qubaisi, Deputy Director General of ADFD, said: "The workshop is in line with the Fund's efforts to enhance everyday interaction with people of determination especially those with impaired hearing. In order to converse with the differently abled, particularly those inflicted with hearing loss, it is important to acquire the basics of the sign language. We believe this will help boost connectivity amongst all members of society and forge strong social relations.”

Al Qubaisi commended the efforts of the Hand Speakers team, noting their prominent role in boosting social integration in society.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Al Qubaisi honoured the Hand Speakers team, thanked them for accepting ADFD’s invitation, and wished them further advancement and success.
