ADFD Conducts Exploratory Meeting with High-profile Costa Rican Delegation

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) met with a high-ranking delegation from Costa Rica led by Luis Guillermo Solís, President of Costa Rica, at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. Welcoming the delegates, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, discussed bilateral relations between the UAE and Costa Rica with the visiting President - focusing on developmental joint ventures and strategic partnerships.

As part of an official visit to the UAE, the Costa Rican leader delivered a presidential keynote at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week’s Global Action Day on January 16, 2017. Attended by the Fund’s senior management and various Costa Rican officials, the gathering explored new synergies between the two sides with a focus on ADFD’s support to the Government of Costa Rica in enabling the country to achieve its sustainable development goals.

His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi highlighted the Fund’s relentless endeavours to forge partnerships for the benefit of developing countries. Outlining ADFD’s growing socio-economic developments and renewable energy portfolio in Central America, he emphasized the Fund’s keenness to expand its mandate within Costa Rica.

For his part, President Solís praised the UAE’s efforts in aiding sustainable development on a global level. In addition, he commended the Fund on its unique approach to driving growth in all key sectors that ultimately results in equipping the beneficiary nations with the means to achieve sustainability and prosperity on their own.

Since its inception in 1971, ADFD has financed development projects valued at over AED75 billion in more than 80 countries around the world. The Fund focuses on projects that aim to enhance key sectors including renewable energy, transport, infrastructure, agriculture, mining, industry, health care, social services, housing, water and electricity.
