Abu Dhabi, 05 Feb 2021
His Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, today inaugurated Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Center in the Bahraini capital, Manama. The AED 735 million project has been financed by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development from an AED 9.1 billion (US$2.5 billion) grant given by the UAE to Bahrain in 2013 as part of the GCC Development Program.

The opening ceremony was sponsored by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. The attendees included HE Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ambassador of the UAE to Bahrain, and a number of senior officials from the country.
The funding of the hospital reflects the UAE's keenness to play an active role in supporting the sustainable development process in Bahrain and improving the country’s standard of living through a superior health-care system. The cardiac centre, which boasts modern infrastructure, caters to more than 2.5 million individuals from within and outside the country.

According to HE Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, the specialist cardiac centre is one of the most prominent projects financed by the Fund in the health sector anywhere in the world, summing up the extent of cooperation between ADFD and Bahrain over sustainable-development initiatives.

“The hospital is a significant addition to specialist medical care available in the Gulf region,” he said, adding that the Fund, in cooperation with the Bahraini government, had financed many development projects in strategic sectors such as housing, water, health and transport, which have had significant impact on Bahrain’s economy.

Lieutenant General HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health in Bahrain, stressed the strength of the deep relations between Bahrain and the UAE as he expressed appreciation for the support provided by the UAE in terms of financing strategic projects as part of the GCC Development Program.

He also thanked ADFD for financing Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Cardiac Center, calling it one of the most important health projects in the country aimed at helping the Bahraini government achieve its comprehensive development goals.

The 148-room centre has a 56,000 square-metre built-up area. Equipped with the latest infrastructure, it boasts of latest technology such as artificial intelligence and advanced catheterisation laboratories.

The centre contains integrated facilities and services such as outpatient clinics, radiology and imaging sections, pharmacy, physiotherapy, sterilisation and emergency departments, administrative offices, operating rooms, laboratories, as well as separate wards for men, women and children.

Abu Dhabi Fund began its development work in Bahrain in 1974, having financed 29 projects worth AED 19.5 billion in various sectors.
