Overview
Tunisia is one of the leading producers of dates in the world, and dates form a key agricultural export of the country and a raw material upon which many industrial projects in different parts of the country are based.
The ADFD financed a project to develop the Djerid Oases, which aimed to develop the production of dates through improving the methods of cultivating palms and providing wells to irrigate more than 3,361 hectares of palm farms, to contribute to strengthening the country's production of dates and provision of more job opportunities in the agriculture sector and dates industry.
The project involved drilling a number of wells and processing pumps to provide water for irrigation of oases, and the replacement of the old irrigation network with a modern one to extend the network to oases and provide some facilities for wind bumpers, as well as providing agricultural guidance and research programs.
