Overview

This project enabled the Suez Canal to accommodate the new generation of gigantic cargo ships, oil and gas tankers, facilitating the movement of commercial and oil consignments between producer and consumer nations and, undoubtedly, giving a tremendous boost to the canal’s revenues.  The project included civil works accompanying the canal widening, i.e. drilling, filling up and other works, in addition to works of coast protection and building breakwaters in the far northern entrance of the canal at Port Fouad City. Equipping the navigation control unit with state-of-the-art technologies, radars and tugboats was another element of the project.
