Overview

People in rural areas in many developing countries suffer from the inability to carry out land reclamation and irrigation projects, which negatively affect their productivity and contribution to the overall development process in their respective countries, as well as their source of livelihood and therefore, their standard of living. Within the framework of its support to the efforts of the Tunisian government to support development in rural areas, the ADFD provided a soft loan to help finance a project designed to protect arable land from erosion, provide additional water resources and reclaim land. This contributed to improving the economic and social situation of farmers and stopped the migration from rural areas to the cities. The project included the establishment of 100 lakes and reclaiming about 3,000 hectares with the provision of equipment for irrigation and the protection of 50,000 hectares against erosion.
