Overview

With the intention of improving transportation services, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development contributed to funding a high-speed train project which was highly competitive in terms of quality, safety and speed. The project supported high demand at the Tanger-Med Port, and it also facilitated the movement of goods and travelers. The train reduces travelling time from 5 to 2.5 hours and helps support economic growth through doubling the movement of containers and increasing the annual number of travelers to from three million to 10 million. The project included establishing the first phase of the 320km/hr high-speed train track between the cities of Tangier and Kenitra (for 200 kilometers), and connecting it to the current railway network. It also provided railway equipment, civil works to prepare the current railway gates, building facilities in the Tangier and Kenitra stations, self-propelled railcars, and a train-maintenance workshop in Tangier.
