Overview
This project supports the agricultural sector by increasing the cultivated land area and its productivity. The Kendadji Dam project will also provide economic and food stability to communities in the surrounding region and improve living standards for the people of Niger. The Kendadji Dam project, which will be built in several stages, includes the construction of a concrete foundation containing a hydroelectric power plant for the production of electrical power with a capacity of 130 MW.
In addition, the project involves the reclamation of an initial land area covering 2,000 hectares lying directly behind the dam, which will be increased to 31,000 hectares at a later stage. The project will also include the implementation of a social and environmental management plan to ensure that residents of the area affected by the dam construction will be resettled.
