Overview

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development provided funding for a project to transport and distribute the output from Al Dur power and water plant (Phase II) in Bahrain. The plant has a capacity of 50 million gallons per day and the project aims to meet the increasing water demand due to population growth, urbanization, investment, industrialization and housing projects. This aligns with the goals and recommendations outlined in the 2015-2030 Master Plan. Additionally, the project helped establish transport networks to support the supply of water to cities and to maintain strategic reserves that can cover at least three days of average daily consumption. The project aims to achieve the Bahrain Electricity and Water Authority’s (EWA) goal to increase flexibility and safety of water transport networks, while also improving their reliability and capacity. The project includes the construction of main water lines for the second set with diameters of 1,200mm and 800mm, and a total length of 21km, and for the third set, with diameters of 1,000mm and 800mm, and a total length of 29km.
