Overview

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development is supporting agriculture as a key sector to help achieve Sustainable Development Goals in developing nations. In particular, ADFD has funded a project to develop agricultural production systems in the Uzbekistan’s Karakalpakstan region with the aim of improving the standard of living for small farmers and the social conditions of many families in the region. This project will also mitigate the effects of deteriorating agricultural lands, diversify agricultural systems, and facilitate access to agricultural markets in order to achieve food and social security. The project has four main components: developing three pilot agricultural projects in three different locations; identifying crops that can tolerate salinity and methods for seed propagation and production, along with opportunities to develop an integrated project for agricultural and fish production; drafting a strategy to improve production systems and expand harvests; and building the capacities of small farmers who are stakeholders in the project, as well as supporting cooperatives and developing relevant value chains.
