The advancement of the transportation infrastructure is a key requirement for economic development. In order to step up this sector, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development contributed to funding the Al Azraq Road south of Jordan on the Saudi border.
This arterial road connects Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and the GCC countries. It has reduced distances by some 600 km, and has also revitalized the economy in the area through facilitating transportation and trade among these countries. The road is 56 kilometres long and 7.5 meters wide, with a 1.5 meter shoulder on each side.
